The House of Representatives committee on police affairs has challenged the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, to address the security challenges facing the country.

Rep. Abubakar Yalleman, the chairman of the committee, said this in Abuja on Wednesday when he visited the Police Headquarters, Abuja, on an oversight.

“There is no better time to have this visit and engagement than now, considering the myriads of security challenges the nation is faced with,” he said.

He said that the visit was to collaborate with the police on strategies to strengthen its operations.

He said there was a need to address security challenges such as Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery, among other social vices that bedevilled the country in recent years.

Mr Yalleman stated that the 10th National Assembly would do everything within its power to address the security challenges.

In his response, Mr Egbetokun assured of his commitment to tackling security challenges in the country.

Mr Egbetokun said the police were collaborating with other security organisations to address the challenges.

He promised to collaborate with the National Assembly and all other relevant stakeholders in order to address the problem.

He said the police and other security agencies were working to ensure the release of the abducted Kaduna pupils and several others in captivity.
