Kolo Haruna, a special assistant to the chairman of the Federal Character Commission FCC), Muheeba Dankaka, has revealed how he engaged in job racketeering at the commission on instructions from his boss.

Mr Haruna said this on Monday before a hearing of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating job racketeering at federal establishments.

“Whenever there is new recruitment she (Dankaka) signs, she gives me the means, then I take it to the accountant general before the new minister would be captured,” he said.

Mr Haruna further revealed how a certain Shehu brought 25 job seekers in person to the federal commission, where they each paid between N1 million and N1.5 million.

He said there was never a footprint of financial transactions made in their interactions between him and his boss, noting that he frequently gave Mrs Dankaka the money in cash.

“The Shehu is the one that brought people, so many people like almost 25 in number. Sometimes one of the job seekers will pay one million, the other will pay 1.5 million all to my personal Ecobank account number. And she would instruct me to give her in cash installment and there was no transfer. I was never involved in selling jobs. I only acted based on instructions, sir,” he added.

Mr Haruna made the revelation following a backlash between him and Ms Dankaka at the federal commission, in which both officials have levelled accusations and counter-accusations of corruption and nepotism against each other.

Some FCC commissioners had accused Ms Dankaka of lying to the House about having a doctor’s appointment in order to avoid appearing before the committee.
