Former Vice President and Presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has sworn to tackle stealing of public funds if elected President in the 2023 general elections.

Mr Abubakar, while wooing delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in PortHarcout, Rivers, blamed lack of funding as reason for incessant strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The presidential hopeful pledged to ensure that the educational sector was given proper care and attention.

“I will make sure that our educational system is very well looked after. Today we have all our public universities closed down for several months.

“Our children have been out of school. Not because we have not instituted institutions during PDP to make sure there is enough funding for these institutions.

“But because they are stealing the money. I will make sure nobody steals public money, I swear,” Mr Atiku said.

Strike action by ASUU has been extended by another 12 weeks following the inability of President Muhammadu Buhari-led regime to faithfully execute the federal government’s agreement with the union.
