Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has promised to clear all the outstanding salaries of workers in the Ondo civil service before the end of 2022.

Mr Akeredolu, who gave the assurance at a public function in the Ikare Akoko area of the state, said his government was committed to the welfare of civil servants in Ondo.

“One glorious thing that I have as news for all public servants is that by the end of this year, Ondo would no longer be on the list of states that are owing salary,” he said.

Workers in the state are currently owed two months salaries for September and October.

Mr Akeredolu, who took over from former governor Olusegun Mimiko in 2016, said he had met a seven months salary backlog owed civil servants in the state.

To offset the backlogs inherited from the previous administration, the government had resorted to a percentage payment of salaries for the government workers.

The Nigeria Labour Congress in the state had repeatedly mounted pressure on the State government to offset the outstanding salaries and arrears of the civil servants.

Speaking further in Ikare Akoko, Mr Akeredolu said the government workers in Ondo deserved to be paid for their labour, noting that he was ready to fulfil all his promises.

Represented by the State Head of Service, Kayode Ogundele, the governor said his administration would continue to work for the development of the state.

“As you all know, he is Mr Talk and do. So, he has promised and you have outlined.

“I want to assure you that before this administration comes to a close, you will see the fulfilment of the promise by the grace of God,” he added.
