I’ll police Ondo with fear of God: New police commissioner Jesubiyi
Taiwo Jesubiyi, the new Commissioner of Police in Ondo, has promised that the command under his watch would combat all forms of crime and criminality in the state with the “fear of God.”
Mr Jesubiyi, who said the fight against crime, particularly kidnapping is not “a one-man business”, revealed that the command was prepared to review its strategy in tackling the challenges of insecurity in Ondo.
He made the commitment on Monday in his maiden press briefing on his assumption of office as the 42nd commissioner of police in Ondo.
“I’m here in the command (Ondo) to do the police work with the fear of God. We would be here to review the existing strategy and to reduce the crime rate to the barest minimum,” Mr Jesubiyi told reporters at the Ondo police command headquarters in Akure.
The new police boss took over from Oyeyemi Adesoye Oyediran, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), by the Police Service Commission.
While promising to synergise with other sister security agencies to battle crime in the state, Mr Jesubiyi vowed that the state would no longer be habitable for criminal elements.
He stated that the existing relationship between the police and other security agencies in the state would be worked on to rid criminals of the forests in the boundary between Ondo, Kogi and Edo States.
“Security is not a one-man business. I implore the citizens of the state to work together with us to fight crime if not to stand still but the barest minimum.
“We plan to work on synergy with other sister agencies to see how we can adequately comb the forest leading to Kogi and Edo states. And in a short while, you will see our action.
“So, I’ll work in robust relationship with the existing synergy with sister agencies in the state to nip in the bud all crime and I won’t fail in that direction,” the Ondo police boss.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, had last month deployed Mr Jesubiyi to Ondo with the mandate to tackle insecurity in the state.
Mr Jesubiyi was among the 12 commissioners of police deployed to the various state commands nationwide.
