Ivan Toney scored twice as Manchester City missed a chance to provisional go top of the Premier League table following a stunning 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Englishman, who was omitted from England final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, put on an impressive performance in the remarkable win to end City’s 16 matches unbeaten run at home.

Toney gave the visitors the lead 16 minutes into the encounter through a header that caught Ederson off his line but after several attempts by City to level the game, Phil Foden finally equalised for the hosts with a thunderbolt barely two minutes before the halftime whistle.

Manchester City continued their dominance in the second half of the game, keeping possession of the ball in Brentford’s half for the most part, but were unable to break the impressive defensive line of Thomas Frank’s men.

After eight minutes being played out of the ten added minutes, it looked like the game was heading to a stalemate, but a last minute counterattack saw Jose Dasilva set up Ivan Toney to seal a dramatic victory for Brentford.

With the defeat, City failed to temporarily get atop the league table – they are now two points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, while Brentford provisional move to top half of the league table.
