U.S. President Joe Biden has announced his reelection bid on the platform of the Democratic Party.

“Joe is in. Chip in today to kickstart our campaign,” his campaign website declared, stating that “together, we can finish the job for the American people.”

Mr Biden already has his reelection campaign video out, titled “I am running for reelection’.

On Monday, the U.S. president at the White House, had told journalists, “I told you I’m planning to run. I’ll let you know real soon.”

Mr Biden’s reelection campaign will be met with resistance by embattled Mr Trump.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is also seeking to clinch the Republican presidential nomination though Mr Trump remains a front runner.

Some of Mr Biden’s largest donors have been invited to a financial conference in Washington only days before his anticipated announcement.

The granddaughter of American labour icon Cesar Chavez, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a top White House aide, is one of the candidates considered to lead the reelection campaign.

Ahead of the U.S. presidential slated for November 5, 2024, the Republican Party will hold its first presidential debate in August 2023. On January 22, 2024, the party will hold its primary (caucus) in Iowa. The Democratic’s primary will be in South Carolina on February 3, 2024.

On July 15, 2024, The Republicans will hold their national convention in Milwaukee. The Democrats will have theirs on August 19, 2024 in Illinois to officially nominate their presidential candidate.

Then, campaigns and debates will follow in Autumn 2024 and Americans will decide their next president on November 5, 2024.

On January 6, 2025, the electoral votes will be formally counted in Congress and the winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election will be sworn in on January 20, 2025.
