The Lagos State University (LASU) has awarded honorary doctorates to Babatunde Fashola, a former governor and works minister and other APC allies.

Mr Fashola was awarded the honorary doctorate at LASU’s convocation. Vice-Chancellor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello announced this at the 26th convocation and congregation for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Lagos.

Ms Olatunji-Bello listed others that bagged honorary doctorate awards, including Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Lagos first lady, Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Olukoya, the pastor and founder of Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM), Oba Saheed Elegushi, Ikate-Elegushi kingdom; Oba Suleiman Ashade I, Oniba of Iba and Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, former senior special assistant to the president on SDGs.

“I congratulate these illustrious personalities on being found worthy by the Senate of the university as a result of their contributions to the growth and development of the institution and the society. Fashola is awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment),” she said.

Ms Olatunji-Bello disclosed that Mr Gbajabiamila was awarded the honorary Doctor of Law (Education, Community and National Development).

“Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu is awarded honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Child Healthcare, Environmental Development and Women Empowerment). Elegushi is awarded the honorary Doctor of Arts (Broadcasting, Community Integration and Human Rights Advocate), and Olukoya receives the award of honorary Doctor of Science (Genetics and Biotechnology),” the LASU vice-chancellor stated.

Mr Ashade, according to her, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Grassroots Development).

“Appreciation award was given to Adefulire for her consistent support and contributions to the development of the physical infrastructure of the university,” she said.

Ms Olatunji-Bello said a posthumous award was also given to the late pioneer vice-chancellor of LASU, Folabi Olumide.

“Olumide nurtured this institution from (the) cradle and laid a solid foundation, which we are all building on today. Furthermore, the Senate of the university also conferred the title of distinguished professor on two respected and accomplished academics in the university,” explained the LASU VC.

“They are Prof Dapo Dsaju, Department of Religions and Peace Studies and Prof B. Elemo, Department of Biochemistry. It is important to state that the choice of both of them after rigorous scrutiny from amongst equally deserving individuals is a confirmation of their sacrifice, personal integrity, and service to the nation and humanity as a whole,” she said.
