A Jos-based cleric, Gabriel Dung, says the rising challenges in Nigeria result from leaders’ lack of justice and fairness in all sectors.

In his sermon on Sunday, Mr Dung, the assistant parish priest of St Finberrs’ Catholic Church, Rayfield, Jos, maintained that Nigeria was passing through difficult times due to social injustice.

“Part of the challenges affecting the growth of this nation is the lack of justice and fairness, especially on the part of our leaders,” Mr Dung said.

He charges Christians, especially those occupying public positions, to be exemplary in discharging their duties.

The cleric, who decried the spate of injustice at workplaces, homes, schools and other places in society, cautioned that God hates such practices.

“So, I am calling on us all to shun injustice and embrace justice and fairness in our dealings with God and fellow humans.

“We must put selfishness aside and support each other, particularly the less privileged ones and that make our society better,” he advised.

Mr Dung also called on leaders at all levels to be accountable to God and the people they serve, stressing that such a move attracts the people’s trust in the leader.

The cleric advised Christians to pray for leaders, adding that leadership comes with many challenges.

The priest also advised Christians to desist from cheating others to maximise profit.
