Liverpool announce Alexander Isak as new striker in €130 million British record deal

Liverpool has completed the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British record-breaking transfer deal.
The 25-year-old joins the reigning champions, the Reds, in a deal worth £130 million, which includes add-ons.
The move for the talented striker comes after the Reds had smashed the transfer record earlier this summer for Florian Wirtz in a deal worth up to £116 million.
Isak completed his medical on Monday before finalising the six-year contract to keep him at Anfield until 2031, ending weeks of tense negotiations between the two clubs.
Speaking on the move, Isak said, “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super happy to be a part of this team, this club, and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans and getting back out there.”
Liverpool had seen an earlier £110 million bid rejected, but the player made his desire to leave clear, skipping training sessions, preseason games, and the start of the new season to push through the move to Anfield as his number one priority for the summer window.
The transfer allowed Eddie Howe’s team to quickly find an alternative, signing German forward Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa to fill the No. 9 role.
For Liverpool, the deal crowns an incredible window for the Reds and is a clear statement of purpose.
Arne Slot’s side now has one of Europe’s most complete center forwards, and his arrival completes a summer where the Reds spent over £290 million on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni.
The Swede scored 23 Premier League goals last season and was central to Newcastle’s League Cup triumph, ending a 70-year domestic trophy drought, which gave him a reputation as one of the division’s most lethal strikers.
For Newcastle, the deal ends Isak’s three-year spell at St. James’ Park, where he has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the club.
Before arriving at Newcastle United, he broke through at AIK in Sweden before earning a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
After a brief spell in Germany and a loan stint at Willem II, he found his feet at Real Sociedad, where his goalscoring form earned him a £63 million transfer to Newcastle in 2022.
On the international stage, he has earned 52 caps for Sweden, scoring 16 goals to date.
