Man,48, arraigned for alleged embezzlement of N700,000

The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 48-year-old man Taiwo Anago, at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged unlawful conversion.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is being charged with stealing and unlawful conversion, but he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 20, 2024, at about 12.10.a.m, at Ilado area of Badagry, Lagos.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant converted N700,000 being the proceeds of half a plot of land located at Okuju Ilado, belonging to the complainant, Happiness Azeez.
He said, “The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by causing pandemonium. He was arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.’’
According to Ekpo, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 280 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be self-employed.
Mr Layeni adjourned the case until September 24, for mention.
