NYG: Team Ondo departs Akure for Asaba

Mr Fagite encouraged the athletes to give their best and aim for the best.

Athletes and officials of the Ondo State contingent have departed Akure for Asaba for the National Youth Games.

The 9th NYG will run from August 26 to September 6.

At the 8th edition of the NYG, Team Ondo finished 12th on the medals table, with a total of 16 medals.

The state will participate in 22 events including Wrestling, Karate, Squash, Darts, Athletics, Judo, Tennis, Table Tennis, and Swimming.

Others are Handball, Beach Volleyball (girls), Abula (male), Kickboxing, Boxing, Para Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon and Gymnastics.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Henry Omoyofunmi, while addressing the athletes, urged them to be good ambassadors of the state by competing in line with the rules and spirit of the games.

Mr Omoyofunmi, represented by the General Manager of the state Sports Council, Sunday Fagite, encouraged the athletes to give their best and aim for the best.

He said, “Our sports-loving governor is looking forward to receiving you upon your return. Win medals for the state and make us proud.’’
