Paris Saint Germain (PSG) forward Messi does not pay attention to boos and jeers from fans, says compatriot and clubmate Angel Di Maria.

Messi has been a target of attack from the disappointed fans especially since the Parisian club was eliminated from UEFA Champions League a few weeks ago.

The former Barcelona talisman has not been able to replicate the record-breaking performances that earned him world acclaim since his arrival at the French capital. He has only returned nine goals in 32 appearances across all competitions since his arrival.

Di Maria, speaking to Argentine radio Urbana Play FM,  however, wonders why the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is under attack though he recognises the fans disappointment.

“The best player in the world whistled… it’s hard to believe,” Di Maria said.

“But here at the club, people, the ultras, are demanding, very passionate, and they see the best players coming in, and we are eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League; normally, they are disappointed. It happens everywhere.”

Nonetheless, he said, “Leo does not pay attention; it’s a detail. It’s football. We know it’s like that; it has to be like that.”
