NACCIMA commends Tinubu on Samiya border reopening

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture has commended President Bola Tinubu for ordering the immediate reopening of the Samiya International Border in Kebbi.
The border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin has remained closed, limiting formal trade and economic activities along the corridor.
NACCIMA president Jani Ibrahim disclosed this on Monday in a statement.
The directive was announced during a visit by the comptroller-general of customs, Bashir Adeniyi, to the command in Birnin-Kebbi.
Mr Ibrahim described the decision as timely and forward-looking, noting that it would strengthen cross-border trade and deepen regional economic cooperation.
He said the move would revitalise legitimate economic activities and boost livelihoods within border communities.
Mr Ibrahim praised the introduction of stronger compliance measures, improved transit controls, and modern cargo monitoring technology alongside the reopening.
He noted that faster cargo clearance and coordinated inter-agency oversight reflected a balanced approach supporting trade facilitation while safeguarding national security and revenue.
“As a leading advocate for cross-border trade enhancement, NACCIMA recognises the far-reaching developmental impact of functional and well-regulated border posts.
“The reopening sends a strong policy signal that technology-driven border operations can promote growth, protect national interests, and advance ECOWAS trade integration,” Mr Ibrahim said.
