Former Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye, has accused the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, of planning to scuttle the February 25 presidential poll.

“The punishment suddenly imposed on Nigerians by CBN is totally unnecessary. Emefiele (Godwin) and his cohorts have their own ulterior motive,” Mr Adeyeye alleged.

Speaking in Akure on Monday, Mr Adeyeye said Mr Emefiele was the “most controversial CBN governor” in Nigeria’s history, saying he introduced the cashless policy to work against Bola Tinubu of the APC.

He specifically lampooned the CBN governor, stressing that swapping policy from the old currencies to the new notes was already taking its toll on Nigerians.

The National Coordinator of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju Tinubu (SWAGA), added that the CBN governor adhere to the advice given to him on the way forward.

“With the situation, they have inflicted pain on Nigerians. Emefiele should heed Asiwaju’s suggestion to solve the situation.

“Emefiele has become the most controversial and partisan CBN governor in the history of Nigeria. He has become extremely controversial.

“Either he likes it or not, the people of Nigeria know what is going on. Tinubu will win this election,” Mr Adeyeye added.

In 2022, the Emefiele-led CBN announced the introduction of the redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes into the financial system of the country.

Since the introduction of the newly redesigned naira notes, and amid nationwide currency scarcity, many Nigerians have battled to swap currencies.
