Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to take their anger and frustration caused by the hardship induced by the naira scarcity to the polls on February 25.

Mr Obi made the call on Wednesday via his official Twitter handle shortly after a bank was razed by angry Nigerians in Delta State.

“There have been reported pockets of skirmishes in Benin City and other places arising from the recent scarcity of cash. I plead with Nigerians to be patient; help is coming. The suffering and harsh economic realities have brought untold anger on the people.

“May we, for the nation, take such anger to the polls on February 25. That is the only way to end the present suffering,” Mr Obi said.

Some banks have been attacked and razed by angry citizens over the naira redesign policy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

Withdrawal of old naira notes and shortage in the circulation of recoloured notes have left economic and commercial activities disrupted as Nigerians suffer to get cash.

In October, Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, announced the redesign of the N200, N500 and N1000 notes.

However, in a nationwide broadcast on Thursday morning, Mr Buhari approved the continuous use of the old N200 banknote as legal tender till April 10.
