The Ondo command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday paraded 24 suspects in Akure for their involvement in selling and using psychotropic substances like Indian hemp, cocaine and tramadol.

One of them is female.

NDLEA commander in the state, Kayode Raji, said the suspects were arrested during raids on black spots in the state during which 15.6kg of psychotropic substances were seized.

He added that the raids became necessary to ensure peace in the state as drug users usually constituted a nuisance to the state.

He added that the menace being caused by the use of hard drugs in the state was becoming worrisome.

“Of course, we went around the st e, we went to the black spots and joints and these are the ones who were apprehended. We went to so many places and hideouts and about 24 were arrested and a female was among them.

“As usual, because of the menace constituted by the users of hard drugs, we go on raid and dislodgement of blackspots within the state,” Mr Raji told reporters.

Mr Raji advised parents to ensure that they monitored their wards properly and ensure that they kept off drug abuse.

“Some of those arrested are sons of those that are well-to-do in the society,” Mr Raji said.

In his remarks, Deputy Zonal Commander, Zone J of the NDLEA, Andrew Idele, assured that the NDLEA would rehabilitate those arrested to ensure that they lived better lives.
