The trio of Rotimi Williams, Olatayo Olasehinde and Damilola Sholademi powered Team Nigeria to second place finish at the just concluded African  Archery Competition in South Africa.

It was the first time that Nigeria would be competing in the continental competition but managed to put together an impressive performance to win the silver medal in their maiden outing.

Williams, Olasehinde and Sholademi competed in the men’s 50m compound bow, finishing behind the host South Africa to clinch the silver medal.

Nigeria also won silver in the mixed category, combining both men and women. The trio Williams, Sholademi and Kachollom Enyenihi competed for Team Nigeria in that event.

The competition started on Monday, with individual eliminations, then proceeded to team eliminations on Tuesday and ended on Wednesday(yesterday) with the finals.

A total of 66 archers from 16 different countries including Algeria, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Comoros, Egypt, Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe took part in this year’s competition.

This was the first edition of the African Championships since the last edition that was held in Pretoria, South Africa in 2016. It is now the 12th edition of the tournament in history.
