Nigerian Hajj pilgrims will get 1,000-fold reward praying inside Prophet Muhammad’s mosque: Cleric

“If a Muslim observes an obligatory prayer in congregation in the prophet’s mosque, he will be rewarded 1,000 fold” than worshipping in other mosques.

Shehu Mashama-Zauro, a member of the Da’awah Committee for the 2024 Hajj, has charged pilgrims to observe the five daily prayers in the prophet Muhammad’s mosque during their stay in Medina.

The Islamic cleric, the Sarkin Malamai of Zauro and chief imam of New Prison, Birnin Kebbi, made the call in Medina on Sunday.

He said, “If a Muslim observes an obligatory prayer in congregation in the prophet’s mosque, he will be rewarded 1,000 fold as against praying in mosques other than it.

“My duty is to preach. Therefore, my message to the pilgrims is for them to observe the Umrah and Hajj rites according to the rules.”

Mr Mashama-Zauro advised the pilgrims to use their stay in Medina to visit certain places per the prophet’s sunnah.

He said, “While in Medina, there is a need for the pilgrims to visit and say salam to the prophet, the Khalifa of the prophet, Abubakar Siddiq, as well as Amirul Muminin, Umar bin Khatab.

“They should proceed to visit Baqi’a, which is the graveyard of companions of the prophet. They also need to visit Masjid Quba, that is the mosque of Quba. Because the prophet said whoever visits Quba and performs two raka’at will earn a reward of a complete Umrah, they also need to visit the graveyard of Uhud.

“If a pilgrim so wishes may as well visit the Mosque with two Qibla as well as some other historic places but the above four are the main places according to Sunnah.”

Mr Mashama-Zauro urged the pilgrims to be disciplined and maintain a high sense of decorum while observing the religious rites. He advised them to obey their leaders and perform a successful Hajj.

The cleric lauded the Kebbi government for free of charge providing Ihram clothing, cattle, and toiletries to each of the pilgrims right from the Birnin Kebbi Airport.

“We have a new government in the state and a new executive chairman on the pilgrims’ board, and the provision of these items is a new development. We have never seen this before. We have to thank them and urge them to continue with the good work,” Mr Mashama-Zauro said.
