The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has brokered a truce between the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Turkish Airlines while promising to airlift stranded Nigerian passengers.

NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu said this at a news conference after the agreement was reached on Thursday in Lagos.

The passengers were stranded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos following the picketing of the airline by NUATE since Tuesday.

Mr Achimugu had promised to meet with the union on Thursday to resolve the impasse after meeting with the country manager of Turkish Airlines in Nigeria on Wednesday evening.

Following the NCAA intervention, NUATE has temporarily agreed to shelve further interruption of Turkish Airlines operations in Lagos and Abuja to allow the airlift of stranded passengers, both inbound and outbound, from across the world.

The meeting had representatives of NUATE led by its general secretary, Comrade Ochema Aba, and the regional manager of NCAA, Bukola Teriba, among others.
