The Ondo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has elected a new set of executive members to pilot its affairs.

Segun Giwa of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) emerged as the SWAN chairman, while Joseph Adesuyan of the Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Femi Atolagbe emerged as the general secretary and financial secretary of the association, respectively.

The election took place at the SWAN secretariat in the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital, at the weekend.

Peoples Gazette reports that Ayodeji Ogunsakin, the zonal vice-president of the association, supervised the exercise in strict compliance with the constitution of SWAN.

Earlier, Femi Dairo, SWAN caretaker chairman, appreciated members for allowing the exercise to take place after several postponements.

Mr Dairo, who gave accounts of how all the processes began, urged the new executive members to ensure unity in the association.

He, however, dissolved the caretaker committee members who had held sway for several months.

On his part, Mr Ogunsakin, who swore in Mr Giwa’s led executive members, charged them to ensure that the lost glory of SWAN in the South-West was restored.

He appreciated all those who showed interest in the leadership role of SWAN in the state, saying there’s “no loser nor winner” in the exercise.

“The election has gone; see everyone as your member. I foresee a situation where we move from state to state in solidarity and to do things together in love,” he said.

Remarking, Mr Giwa appreciated the national president of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin, for his love and support before, during and after the exercise.

He assured members of purposeful leadership, adding that the new set of leaders would be transparent in all its dealings while also promoting peace and tranquillity through sporting activities.

The SWAN president also used the opportunity to appreciate the Ondo Commissioner for Sports, Bamidele Ologunloluwa, for his support for the association.

“Ondo State has always been a trailblazer in all ramifications, and with the support of all and sundry, we shall take our rightful position.

“To this end, I urge all members to support this newly inaugurated executive of SWAN in the state for the set targets, aims, and objectives of the association to be achieved within the time frame of our constitution.

“Let me assure you all that my administration will promote peace through sports and sporting activities, especially at the grassroots level, and will partner with relevant stakeholders to achieve this aim; as they said, no one can do it alone,” Mr Giwa added.
