Favour Ofili is through to the final of the women’s 200m after running a season’s best of 22.05 seconds to finish second in semi-final two behind newly-crowned 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred.

The Commonwealth Games silver medalist had failed to compete in the 100m event following the failure of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee to submit her name for the event.

But the 21-year-old has now overcome the disappointment to secure Nigeria’s first final on the track in any event at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games and she will line up against other seven contenders on Tuesday.

Ofili finished with third overall best in the semifinals behind America’s Thomas Gabrielle (21.86s) and Alfred, who crossed the line in 21.98 seconds.

Others in the final include Brown Brittany and Mckenzie Long from the United States, the Great Britain duo of Neita Daryll and Dina Asher-Smith, and Gbai Jessika from Ivory Coast.
