The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has listed a 43-member campaign council for the bye-election in the Akoko North East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency.

A former chairman of the party, Clement Faboyede, was named as the director general of the campaign while Ebenezer Alabi and Bakkita Bello were listed as chairman and deputy chairman of the campaign council respectively.

Also, Oluseye Olujimi was named the secretary of the campaign.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had scheduled February 3, for the bye-election to fill the vacant seat of the federal constituency.

The electoral body also stated that about 13 political parties had shown interest in contesting in the vacant Akoko Northeast/Northwest federal constituency in the state.

Aside from the PDP; INEC listed other political parties to include: the All Progressives Congress, the Zenith Labour Party, the National Rescue Movement and the Action Peoples Party.

In a statement on Thursday in Akure, the spokesman for the PDP, Kennedy Peretei, said that the opposition party remained unbeatable in the forthcoming bye-election.

Mr Peretei noted that the party would coast to victory with the numbers of the party chieftains on its campaign council, stressing that strategy had already been put in place to win the bye-election.

“The Campaign Council, under the distinguished Chairmanship of Hon Ebenezer Alabi, is populated by leaders of our party with requisite political experience and sagacity to lead the party to victory at the polls,” his statement read.

Recall that the seat became vacant in the House of Representatives following the resignation of the former lawmaker, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, appointed as Minister of Interior by President Bola Tinubu.

Last week Tuesday, Olalekan Bada emerged as the candidate of the PDP for the federal constituency bye-election to fly the ticket of the opposition party after beating his closest rival in the primary, Daniel Omolola.

At the primary held at Jobi Fele Civic Centre in Ikare Akoko, Mr Bada polled 26 votes while Mr Omolola scored 20 votes.
