Peter Obi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has asked federal and state government security agents to stop secretly arresting his supporters.

“Recent reports of OBIdients being silently arrested by some security agents is extremely disturbing and condemnable,” Mr Obi said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Mr Obi called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) regime of President Muhammadu Buhari to “remind their operatives on the need to respect civil liberties.”

Ahead of the general election, Mr Obi urged that “everyone is given a level playing field in the forthcoming elections, and that no eligible Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation is disenfranchised, more so through violence and intimidation.”

The accusation by Mr Obi casts doubt on Mr Buhari’s promise to leave behind a legacy of free and fair election.

A former Anambra governor, Mr Obi will be up against Bola Tinubu of the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar and a host of other candidates.
