The All Progressives Congress flag bearer, Nentawe Yilwatda, has vowed to contest the results of the March 18 governorship election in Plateau.

Mr Yilwatda disclosed this when APC supporters visited his Jos residence on Monday.

“We were sincere in our hearts. We were sincere in our votes. We didn’t rig anywhere. The two local governments gave a difference of over 100,000, and we knew it was rigged,” the APC guber candidate said in an online video.

Considering the low voter turnout in the election, Mr Yilwatda expressed shock at the difference in the numbers.

“How can low voter turnout become high voter turnout? We will challenge it. We will have BVAS records. We will collect our mandate. We will defeat them in court,” the APC flag bearer vowed.

Mr Yilwatda, who polled 481,300 votes, lost to Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 525,299 votes to become the governor-elect.

While Patrick Dakum, the Labour Party candidate and ex-Governor Joshua Dariye, made congratulatory calls to the governor-elect, Mr Yilwatda has decided to challenge the victory in court over allegations of discrepancies.

Before joining the APC as its party’s flagbearer, Mr Yilwatda was INEC’s former resident electoral commissioner in Benue.
