A driver, Abass Ahmed, and a motor boy, Waheed Majiyagbe on Wednesday appeared in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing two 150 amp batteries, two lorry tyres and a tarpaulin belonging to a haulage company.

The police charged Mr Ahmed, 49 and Majiyagbe, 46 with three counts of conspiracy, theft and unauthorised dealing.

They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution counsel, Inspector Esther Adesulu, told the Court that the defendants committed the offence in June

The police alleged that Messrs Ahmed and Majiyagbe , stole and used the truck with Lagos registration number EPE 271 XU for an unauthorised deal and collected N400,000.

She said the act was uncovered when the company management tracked the truck through a tracking system set up by the company.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendants also sought to bribe the systems operator for the tracker with N10,000 when he placed a call across to them, to determine the reason for their action.

Their voices were said to have been recorded and forwarded to the company’s director.

The offence, she said, contravenes the provisions of sections 106, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015

Magistrate D.S. Odukoya admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum

She adjourned the case until August 16 for mention.
