Police arraign storekeeper in court for stealing cartons of drinks

On Tuesday, the police in Lagos arrested a 40-year-old storekeeper, James Oluwaseun, for stealing cartons of drinks valued at N2.01 million.

On Tuesday, the police in Lagos arrested a 40-year-old storekeeper, James Oluwaseun, for stealing cartons of drinks valued at N2.01 million.

The defendant is charged with stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in October 2023 and November 2023 at Yotrad Nig. Ltd., Ojodu, Lagos.

He said when the store was audited, it was discovered that the defendant had stolen 211 cartons of Trophy, seven cartons of Goldberg and four cartons of Heineken.

Mr Akeem said the defendant also stole seven cartons of Maltina drink and a carton of Stout, all valued at N2.01 million.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Osunsanmi adjourned the case until January 24 for mention.
