Police detectives in Ondo have apprehended two Togolese accused of killing a security guard attached to a gas station in the State capital Akure and setting the premises ablaze.

The suspects, Koku Sunday and Kofi Friday, were paraded on Tuesday at the police headquarters on Igbatoro road in Akure.

On July 4, suspected assailants razed the gas station, Titolu Venture filling station, located at Igoba in Akure North local government area of the state.

A security guard, identified as Dandan Sunday, was tied before he was murdered during the attack on the gas station by the killers.

The incident had sparked angry reactions from residents, especially shop owners in the area, who deplored the incessant cases of insecurity in recent times.

Parading the suspects on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the police in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami, said that the case of arson was first reported at the Osi police station by the owner of the gas station.

“The complainant stated that she was alerted via phone that her filling station was on fire. On getting to the station with firefighters, she realised her security guard Dandan Sunday had been killed with his hands and legs tied,” Ms Odunlami added.

The spokesperson said that the police immediately swung into action and the two suspects were arrested in their different houses, following “Intelligence gathering”.

She revealed that one single barrel gun and a plank of wood were recovered from the suspects, including some first aid kits stolen from the gas station, adding that the two suspects would be arraigned in court for prosecution.
