Police confirm abduction of four Nasarawa varsity students

Operatives of the Nasarawa State police command have confirmed the kidnap of four students of the Nasarawa State University, in an invasion of a community in the Keffi Local Government Area.

The gunmen were said to have whisked away the students from their lodge at Angwan Kare, a settlement of the Keffi Local Government Area during the invasion on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, the state’s police public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the students were kidnapped in the early hours of Tuesday at Angwan Ka’are in the LGA, The Punch reports.

He said, “The command is aware of the kidnapping at about 12:55 a.m. as a distress call was received that a house located at Angwan Kaare in Keffi was invaded by unidentified armed men.

“The police in collaboration with the military, responded accordingly and combed the area, but to no avail.”

He added that “the Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the culprits with a view to rescuing the four victims unhurt.”

The kidnapped students are Rahila Hanya, a 100-level student of the science laboratory technology department; Josephine Gershon, a computer science 100-level student; Rosemary Samuel, a 100-level student of business administration; and Goodness Samuel, a 100-level student of the geography department.

The university’s information and protocol officer, Abraham Ekpo, told the newspaper that they had not received any official information about the kidnap.

He said, “The SUG is yet to report the incident to the Vice Chancellor and until we get an official report from the SUG or from the police, we cannot make any statement. We heard about the incident just as you also heard but there is no official communication to us.”
