Police in Kano assure residents of adequate security during bye-election

The police command in Kano has assured residents of adequate security during the conduct of the bye-election in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa on Saturday.
The commissioner of police, Ibrahim Bakori, stated this in a telephone interview on Friday in Kano.
Mr Bakori said that security agencies in Kano were working together to ensure a crisis-free bye-election.
He explained that clear operational orders had been issued to officers deployed to provide security at each polling unit across the affected local government areas.
The commissioner said that sufficient armed personnel had been mobilised to provide adequate security before, during, and after the bye-election.
He said that adequate security measures that would guarantee a peaceful political atmosphere in the state had been put in place.
The commissioner assured law-abiding residents in the state that they could freely exercise their franchise on Saturday without any form of fear.
He urged political parties and candidates to conduct themselves in a manner that promoted peace and the peaceful conduct of the elections.
“We will maintain a visible presence at polling units to safeguard voters’ rights and prevent intimidation.
“We will not tolerate thuggery, intimidation, and violent conduct before, during, and after the election. We will provide a level playing ground for all political parties, and any act capable of causing confusion in the state will not be tolerated,” he said.
Mr Bakori warned that anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted.
