Two men in court over alleged fraudulent conversion of N2.5 million

The police on Friday, arraigned two men— Adebiyi Temitope (40), and Bamisaye Bankole (47), before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud and fund conversion.
The defendants, whose house addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of fraud and fund conversion.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 2, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants obtained the sum of N2.5 million from the complainant, Iyanu Oluwande, on the pretext of selling two plots of land to her, which they knew to be false.
Mr Oriyomi also alleged that the defendants fraudulently converted the money into their personal use without providing her piece of land.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 329(3) and 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, J.J Tijani, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N250,000 with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until September 30 for hearing.
