The police has arrested a man, Abubakar Umar, for alleged gun-running in Adamawa State.

Mr Umar was nabbed by the police on patrol after he was found with 33 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.

The suspect was arrested while on his way to allegedly deliver the ammunition to a man in Jeda town for the ongoing presidential election exercise.

Jeda is the hometown of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who is contesting today’s presidential race.

Speaking while being interrogated, Mr Umar said he was sent on the errand by a man later identified as Musa.

He said he was given the sum of N5,000 to deliver the rifle, and was armed with a charm that would make him invisible in case he was spotted by the police.

Suleiman Nguroje, police spokesman in Adamawa, confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect was currently being interrogated.

“We would charge him to court at the end of our final investigation,” Mr Nguroje said.
