The police command in Oyo state says it has rescued kidnapped victims, arrested alleged murderers, and foiled abductions across the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, said police foiled a kidnap attempt in Budo, Bassi Camp in Iseyin, on Sunday, involving five armed hoodlums who reportedly kidnapped a 60-year-old man named Isiaku Saidu.

During the rescue operation, Mr Olayinka stated that one of the alleged kidnappers was killed, one was arrested, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

A woman, Hussinat Abubakar, who was kidnapped at Gelede Camp in Komu, was rescued unhurt, following intense bush-combing operations led by the divisional police officer in Komu, alongside collaboration with other agencies, said the statement.

Three arrested suspects, Kari Ibrahim (22), Dure Jimoh (25), and Abubakar Sidi (55), have confessed to their involvement in the crime, said the police.

The police added that six expended cartridges were recovered at the scene.

In another incident, the command said it arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a student of Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic, Saki.

The student was killed on January 7 in a fight with his colleagues. During the altercation, a student reportedly sustained a gunshot wound and later died at a private hospital.

The police spokesman said an expended cartridge was recovered at the scene, while a suspect, Olatunji David Segun, had been taken into custody.

Also, Mr Olayinka said police operatives at the Moniya Division arrested a 35-year-old man, Waheed Rasaki, over the death of his colleague during a hunting expedition at Oretan Ijaiye forest, Moniya.

According to the spokesman, Mr Rasaki confessed he mistakenly shot the victim, Femi Oyedepo, who died on the spot.
