Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State have assured residents, voters and other stakeholders of adequate security during Saturday’s Birninkudu/Buji Federal Constituency rerun.

The commands’ Public Relations Officers, DSP Lawan Shiisu and ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, gave the assurance in separate statements in Dutse on Friday.

Mr Shiisu said the police had adopted proactive measures to ensure peaceful and hitch-free rerun election in the state.

He said the command had deployed adequate personnel to ensure peaceful conduct of election.

The spokesperson added that about 30 policemen were expected to man each of the eight polling units, in collaboration with other security agents.

On his part, the NSCDC spokesperson, said the command had also deployed adequate personnel in strategic locations in the constituency.

Mr Tijjani said the action was aimed at guaranteeing the safety and security of the entire exercise.

He noted that the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Muhammad Danjuma, restated the commitment of the corps to uphold the democratic process by ensuring that voters could cast their votes without fear of intimidation.

“The deployment of personnel is part of a comprehensive security strategy to mitigate potential challenges and ensure the credibility of the by-election. The commandant appeals to all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates and the public, to collaborate with the deployed security personnel.

“This cooperative effort is vital for fostering an atmosphere of peace and ensuring the credibility of the election, Mr Tijjani said.

The spokesperson added that Mr Danjuma reiterated the determination of all security agencies in the state to preserve law and order throughout the period.

According to him, the deployed personnel are well trained and equipped to handle any contingencies that may arise, contributing to a secure and transparent electoral environment.

INEC had said 5,642 eligible voters were expected to vote in Saturday’s rerun election.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Muhammad Bashar, had told journalists in Dutse on Friday that the exercise would hold in Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency, in eight polling units, in five registration areas, with seven in the Birninkudu Local Government Area and one in Buji LGA.
