Magistrate L.K.J Layeni of the Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has granted two defendants charged with stealing electricity cable a bail in the sum of N300,000 each. They are also to provide two sureties each in like sum.

Ayomide Aliu and Isaac Eze were arraigned on Friday for allegedly stealing electrical wires valued N700,00.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 1, in the Jakande area of Ojo.

Mr Uche alleged that the defendants stole the wires belonging to the complainant, Akerole Isiaka.

He said that the defendants were caught by some neighbours, who took them to the police station.

Mr  Uche said that the offences contravened Section  287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 stipulates three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

Mr Layeni adjourned the case until May 5, for trial.
