The Taraba State office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) began training 20 unemployed youths on environmental beautification on Friday.

During the orientation for the 20 beneficiaries, Christopher Bamsida, the NDE state coordinator, said they were recruited under the Special Public Works (SPW) department to reduce unemployment.

According to Mr Bamsida, the youths will be trained in plaster of Paris (POP) and hard and soft landscaping, which will lead to skills acquisition in erosion control, environmental beautification protection, and sanitation.

He said the agency recognised the potential of the vibrant youths and was, therefore, dedicated to providing them with the needed skills to build a prosperous and sustainable future.

“The environmental beautification training scheme is poised towards a positive projection of the resilient youths, who are fast making their mark in all fields of human enterprise,” he said.

He added that the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills, abilities, understanding and work habits catalysed gainful employment and entrepreneurship.

The coordinator, however, stressed that the choice of these skill sets was a deliberate attempt to make a mark on the global stage.

He charged the trainees to concentrate and acquire the skills, adding that it was by so doing that they would become relevant in decision-making and building the state’s economy.

”In view of the above objectives, 20 unemployed youths were recruited in EBTS and will be attached to proficient three master trainers,” he explained.

He called on well-meaning individuals, organisations, and governments at various levels to complement NDE’s efforts to reduce unemployment in the country.

The coordinator commended Governor Agbu Kefas for creating a conducive environment for the Directorate to thrive in the state.

In his remark, Usman Bwala, Head of Department, Small Skills Enterprise of the NDE, advised participants to take advantage of the training, and not to let the Federal Government down.
