The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a new 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) power transformer at its Dan Agundi Transmission Substation in Kano State.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Friday that a 132/33 Kilo Volt (KV) transformer was also inaugurated at the transmission sub-station.

Ms Mbah said that the inauguration of the transformers would boost the capacity of the Dan Agundi transmission substation by 80 megawatts (MW), thus providing a vital increase in power supply capability.

“Procured under the TCN-World Bank power project, the transformer, which was delivered early this year to the substation, was installed by a TCN contractor,” said Ms Mbah.

She stated that the substation formerly operated three units of 60MVA capacity transformers, but one was damaged after a fire incident and partially affected another.

“The substation’s capacity was reduced to just one 60MVA transformer. TCN has since initiated efforts to repair the partially affected transformer,’’ she said.

According to her, amid challenges in gas supply for power generation, leading to low generation output, load allocation to the Dan Agundi Substation stands at 30MW.

Ms Mbah said that the company emphasised that the remaining 60MVA power transformer in the Dan Agundi Substation could adequately handle the 30MW load allocation to the substation.

According to her, with the new 100MVA power transformer in service, the substation now boasts redundancy, ensuring it can easily accommodate any additional load.

“TCN is currently transmitting fully the 30MW allocated to Dan Agundi substation to the Kano Distribution Company (DisCo) feeders within the substation.

“The company extends its gratitude to all electricity customers affected by the incident for their patience and support as full supply has been restored,” Ms Mbah stated.
