Supporters of the three main presidential candidates have continued to expose their ‘hypocrisy’ on social media ahead of the 2023 general election.

The self-acclaimed supporters took to Twitter on Monday to dig up old tweets exposing how they had in the past thrown tantrums at the presidential candidates of their choice.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), have been reeling out their campaigns to woo Nigerians as the country prepares for next year’s election.

The trio have also been using social media to engage many Nigerians, particularly the youths, who constitute a large percentage of the country’s population.

Supporters of the three main contenders have also labelled themselves in different name tags such as Atikulates, Obidients, and BATified.

In a social media frenzy on Monday, the staunch supporters of Messrs Abubakar, Tinubu and Obi, launched an attack on each other, exposing how they had in the past been very critical of their preferred candidates for the presidential election.

The internet trend which is rippling on Twitter was started by some Nigerians backing the presidential ambition of Mr Obi of the LP.

One of Mr Obi’s supporters, who tweeted @urchilla01, had called out a staunch supporter of Mr Tinubu, identified as Segun Dada, for his earlier attack on the APC presidential candidate, in a screenshot tweet.

“APC boys don’t worry please we haven’t forgotten you people 🙃🙃 Ehen @officialABAT are you aware that this is what your disciple Dada Olusegun truly thinks of you,” @urchilla01 wrote.

Another supporter, Ayo Sogoru, also tweeted @Ayosoguro, exposing how Mr Olusegun had been lashing out at Mr Tinubu in the past.

“Back when I used to drink beer and discuss the future of Nigeria with Segun Dada and co. For a brief point in time, I thought we all had the same vision for the country. Ashey while I was pontificating, they were positioning,” Mr Soguro tweeted.

But in his defence, Mr Olusegun, who tweeted @DOlusegun, said he was a member of the defunct CPC in 2010 and did not support Mr Tinunu because of the failure of the merger of ACN/CPC.

“I support him today with my full chest. As a member of CPC in 2010, I was upset with the failure of the merger of ACN/CPC. I’m Asiwaju’s biggest fan today because he proved my perceptions about him wrong in the run-up to the merger of 2012. I’m not on the ballot, he is so rest,” he said.

Dr Guendouzi, who tweeted @fimiletoks had also shared screenshots of attacks on Mr Obi in the past, especially when he was Anambra governor.

“Blast from the past: they want to repackage Awka-Etiti mud house with a POP ceiling.”

Another supporter, Sally Suleiman, who tweeted @is_salsu wrote, “With these screenshots, I just hope that going forward people will be able to support who they want in peace. No one should get dragged for supporting any of the candidates. We can all see that the candidates are not messiahs. Just pick the best one to you and support!”

But in his different reaction, one Ayoola who tweeted @ayaj_ wondered why supporters of the candidates are digging out their past, stressing that there was no difference between the three main candidates jostling for the presidential seat with their antecedents.

“All of the dug up tweets should tell you one thing. There is no messiah anywhere. Tinubu and Atiku backed Buhari in 2015. Atiku and Obi ran together in 2019. These 3 men now slugging it out on different platforms means nothing. There is no difference,” he wrote.
