Three people were killed and two others critically injured after a passenger train hit a car in Indonesia’s Pasuruan regency, in East Java province, on Tuesday, local police reported.

Pasuruan Police Deputy Chief Andria Diana Putra said the fatal accident occurred at around 8:40 a.m. local time.

“A car with seven people on board trespassed at a railroad crossing without a bar gate in Rejoso sub-district. The car was hit by a passing train and severely damaged as it bounced off about 150 metres,” Mr Putra said.

He added that the officers were still investigating the cause of the accident.
