North London-based club, Tottenham Hotspurs, were the most abused club on Twitter during the 2022/23 season of the Premier League, according to research by the Israel-based website, SeatPick.

The report found that Tottenham averaged 2.21 negative swear words per 100 comments throughout the Premier League last season. Over 27 per cent of comments and posts about the club were negative.

Tottenham struggled throughout last season, coupled with poor performances from some of their top players, including Son Heung Min and Brazilian Richarlison as they finished eighth in the league; the factor greatly contributed to the high volume of abuses suffered by the club.

They had a Twitter abuse score of 9.5 and 2106 negative swear words were targeted at the club throughout the last league season.

Relegated Leeds United came second in the list of the most abused clubs on Twitter. Every 100 posts and comments about the club contained two swear words amounting to 25.3 per cent negative comments on average, a Twitter abuse score of 8.6 and 1987 swear words.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool occupied 7th, 10th, 13th and 14th places respectively. The Red Devils faced 1159 negative swear words amounting 1.2 of them per every 100 comments and posts. The percentage of abuse stood at 23.8 and 6.2 Twitter abuse score.

Meanwhile, United’s neighbour and arch-rivals Manchester City were the least abused club in all of the Premier League during the past season. The Cityzens only faced 703 negative swear words amounting to 18.2 per cent in total.

Only 0.7 words per 100 words and comments on average about Manchester City were negative swear words.
