Twitch suspends Carter Efe’s account for violating platform’s policy
Nigerian content creator and streamer Oderhohwo Efe’s Twitch account has been temporarily suspended, days after making history as Africa’s most-followed streamer.
Efe, aka Carter Efe, who recently set the continental record for the most-watched Twitch livestream with 83,000 viewers during a session with Davido, shared a screenshot of a Twitch email on his Instagram story.
The email, titled ‘Your Twitch account carterefe has been temporarily suspended’, cited violations of the platform’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
“Based on a review of your activity or content, we have issued a global suspension on your account,” the email read. “As a result, your access to Twitch services is temporarily restricted. Please be aware that repeated violations may lead to more serious actions on your account, including longer temporary suspensions or permanent suspension.”
Twitch’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines set content standards that all users must follow. The platform can issue warnings, remove content, or suspend accounts if activity violates these rules.
Streamers are also responsible for the content on their channels, including chat interactions, and are expected to use moderation tools to manage rule-violating activity.
The suspension comes shortly after Efe surpassed 20,000 subscribers, overtaking fellow Nigerian content creator Shank Comics to become the first African Twitch streamer to reach that milestone.
Efe amassed over 405,000 followers on the platform, adding roughly 160,000 in four days after his livestream with Davido.
During the record-breaking livestream, Davido connected Efe with several high-profile figures, including his wife, nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and even phoned Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen also made an appearance, while fellow content creator Enzo challenged Efe to a humorous impromptu boxing match, creating a viral moment that dominated social media.
Following the suspension, the 30-year-old streamer posted a YouTube link urging fans to join his live stream, signaling his move to YouTube while awaiting the end of his Twitch suspension.
