Two brothers and three others on Tuesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged shop breaking and stealing two sewing machines and an Elepaq generator.

The defendants Ogunbodede Ayotomiwa, 18, Yakubu Rahman, 30, Ojo Adewumi, 32, Abiodun Adetukasi, 28, and Femi Adetukasi, 25, are facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug. 19 at midnight in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants broke into the shop of one Osasona Jamiu and allegedly stole two sewing machines and an Elepaq generator, all valued at N1. 9 million.

He said that the offences contravened Section 324 (1) and 302 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendants urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until September 22 for hearing.
