Two men arraigned over alleged illegal possession of firearms

Two men – Samuel Komolafe, 24, and Tomiwa Operinmade, 19, on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged unlawful possession of four live cartridges.
The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a charge of unlawful possession of live cartridges, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 30 at 3.45p.m at Agodi Gardens, Ibadan.
Mr Owolabi said that the police caught the defendants during a stop and search routine with the live cartridges and some items suspected to be charms.
He said that the defendants could not give any satisfactory reason why they were with the cartridges.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 417 (D) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
Chief Magistrate G. T. Oladele granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until September 10 for mention.
