Manchester United have reached the finals of another tournament after beating Brighton 7-6 on penalties to reach the final of this year’s Emirates FA Cup.

They will face neighbours Manchester City in the finals on June 3 at Wembley Stadium.

United had already triumphed in the UK’s largest stadium having defeated Newcastle United in the final of the Carabao League Cup final in February, ending their six-year trophy drought – they will now face their fiercest rivals in another final next month.

The Red Devils were unable to find a breakthrough against Brighton in both the regulation and extra time. The Seagulls had already beaten United this term, handing Erik ten Jag a defeat in his second game in charge at Old Trafford.

Both sides were able to absorb some dangerous attacking threats from one another which saw the tie ending in a shootout.

Solly March missed the only penalty kick in the shootouts while Victor Lindelof converted the last kick of the shootouts to send the Red Devils into their second final in Ten Hag’s first season at the helm of affairs at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, it would not be an easy task in the final against City who will be going into the encounter as the favourites to lift the trophy – they defeated Sheffield United 3-0 in the other semi final fixture on Saturday.

Both City and United have beaten each other in the Premier League this season – the Cityzens were the first to beat its closest foes with a 6-3 win at the Etihad Stadium before the Red Devils got their revenge in the second leg with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.
