Yevgeny Prigozhin, who runs the paramilitary group Wagner, was on a business jet that crashed and killed all passengers in Russia on Wednesday.

Russian civil aviation department said Mr Prigozhin was on the list of passengers aboard the Embraer plane that went down in Tver, just north of Moscow. Russian news outlets said all 10 people on board were killed.

Initial reports had said the plane was shut down as it was heading to St Petersburg by Russian defence forces, and confirmations are still being sought by Telegram channels with ties to Mr Prigozhin.

Russia’s Tass newswire said the plane exploded upon contact with the ground and four bodies had already been recovered.

Mr Prigozhin was the coordinator of a botched coup against Vladimir Putin’s leadership in June. He later returned to Moscow after initial banishment to Belarus. The Kremlin has yet to issue a statement.
