Oluwabamidele Martin, hypeman to Nyesom Wike, has explained the motivation behind the recurring musical hits he uses in cheering the Rivers governor in public events.

In an interview, Mr Martin disclosed that he has always known Mr Wike right from the time when he was the chief of staff but never had the opportunity to work with him.

Speaking to the BBC in pidgin English, the Rivers governor hypeman said that he and Mr Wike never get to rehearse before any event.

“Where you want see governor do rehearsal with am, if he no travel, he dey inspect project, if he no inspect project, he dey receive visitor, if he no receive visitor, he dey shout for contractors wey no dey do well, where you want see do rehearsal,” he said.

Mr Martin further added that he got to make the viral musical hype hit “As e dey pain them ee dey sweet you” after noticing the governor’s trip overseas where he observed that Mr Wike had gone shopping in some elegant fashion boutique.

“He get one wey I do one period for Sandfield wey dey LNG, I don see di man knack di first tin, I say dis guy don go shut down one office for Turkey oh because I see am for Turkey, London and Paris.

“I say this guy don shut down one store oh, I see the second one, i no talk, when I see the green one nah there I open, you know as nah man you no fit go meet am say he look good.”

Mr Martin stated that after his observations, he decided to pass his compliments to the governor through hyping.

“I say make I from my office send the message and nah there I hala as e dey sweet you, e go dey pain dem, with your designers e go dey pepper dem.”

Reacting to how he’s able to get the perfect hype song for the governor, Mr Martin said there are situations where he dishes out his hype to the governor based on his current mood.

“And sometimes too he get the time he go gone such programme he go dey look very down as him dey look down, to make the thing lively I go come select wetin I go pick from him message give am vibe wey go make am shake body and I know say when he shake body internet dey shake,” the hypeman added.

This revelation follows the many reactions to constant video clips of Mr Wike dancing to the hypeman’s hits while receiving praises from him in several public events.
