The director of communications of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, says the federation would not influence the choice of goalkeeper for the Super Eagles in their next World Cup qualifying game.

Olajire said this in an interview during the 10th Nigeria Pitch Awards media briefing in Lagos.

The Super Eagles traded tackles with Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on November 16 at 5.00 p.m.. They will fly to Butare in Rwanda to take on the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Sunday, November 19 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.

Lending his voice to the underwhelming performances of the Super Eagles’ goalkeepers, Olajire said Peseiro was still in the best position to determine what was best for the team, not NFF.

“The choice of goalkeeper still boils down to the Super Eagles’ coach and not NFF; nobody has a say on who will man the post but Peseiro.

“The coach, Peseiro, will be the one to choose among the three goalkeepers he has in the camp as his preferred choice and the one that he thinks will do the job.

“Fans can have their opinions, but the coach will have the final say,” he said.

On the expectations from the Super Eagles in the absence of injured Napoli FC striker Victor Osimhen, former Eagles player Etim Esin said he would bank on Victor Boniface to take up the challenge.

“I am rooting for Victor Boniface to do the job; this is his time to shine and take up the responsibility in the absence of Osimhen.

“This is his opportunity because it will not come any more; Victor Boniface has been banging in goals for his club in Germany; he needs to replicate that now.

“We should have faith in him to do the best job because we all know the pedigree of Osimhen. He is a formidable frontman, Boniface needs to prove himself as well,” he said.
