University of Ibadan (UI) has been ranked 1172nd in the world and the number one tertiary institution in Nigeria with an overall score of 69.3 points, by the Centre for World University Ranking in its 2022 report.

UI was followed closely by university of Nigeria (UNN) which was placed 1775 worldwide and second in the nation with 66.6 points.

Ranking 1924 in the world and third in the country, is University of Lagos with 66.0 points while Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria ranked 1941 placing it as the fourth best institution in the nation.

Harvard university with a whopping 100 points, Massachusetts institute of technology (96.7points) and Stanford university (95.1) retained the number one, two and three spots in the world university rankings for the fourth time in a row.

The ranking comes as Nigerian public universities dally in endless shutdown occasioned by longstanding industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

ASUU embarked on its latest strike accusing the Muhammadu Buhari regime of having a lacklustre attitude to education over its failure to implement the 2020FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action.
