Senator Abdul’aziz Yari (APC-Zamfara) on Tuesday called on the people of the state to support the Federal Government’s anti-banditry operations.

Mr Yari made the call while addressing a crowd of APC supporters in Talata Town, Talata Mafara Local Government of the state.

Yari, representing Zamfara West in the Senate, noted that all stakeholders must collaborate to achieve the ongoing anti-bandtry operations in the state.

“As we celebrate the 64th independence anniversary of our dear country, we must pray for President Bola Tinubu to address economic and security challenges facing our dear nation. The Federal Government is making efforts to achieve peace and stability in the state and North West. Mr President, Bola Tinubu should be commended for recent achievements recorded in anti-banditry efforts not only in Zamfara but in the North West region,” Mr Yari said.

He noted that the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Nigerian security chiefs must be appreciated for their efforts towards restoration of peace and stability in the state.

“We all know that insecurity has been bedevilling the state over a decade. Myself, I took over as a governor of this state in 2011 and I inherited insecurity, the same thing, the two other governors who followed me also inherited the problem,” he noted.

“President Tinubu has made notable strides in tackling insecurity, especially through its targeted efforts to combat banditry in Zamfara and the North-West. Since inauguration of the ongoing military operations in the region by Matawalle and service chiefs, banditry has drastically reduced.

“The ongoing operations yielded positive results. We are enjoining our gallant troops to sustain their efforts in restoring peace and stability in the country. I think our gallant troops have been doing their best to tackle banditry,” Mr Yari said.

The lawmaker also appealed to people of the state to shun any form of violence capable of destroying the nation and called on Zamfara youths to shun protest, embrace peace and stability.

“Nigeria is the only country we have, therefore as leaders, it is our duty to maintain its stability and development. I am, therefore, appealing to you to continue to support our leaders, we should pray to God to guide them right. I call on you to specifically pray for President Bola Tinubu to move Nigeria to a greater level,” Mr Yari added.
