Lighthouse support is delivered directly by partner organisations and not by the Lighthouse Fund itself. Details on how to apply are below. Please note that each member of Lighthouse applies their own processes, criteria, and limits to funding streams. Support is open to all human rights defenders, subject to meeting the criteria of each partner.

Protection Grants

Protection grants are available from the following partner organisations:

• Global: Front Line Defenders accepts applications from human rights defenders or organisations at risk globally. If your country or sub-region is not covered below, apply here after reviewing criteria.
• Africa, including North Africa: African Defenders provides protection grants across the African continent (including North Africa). To request support from African Defenders, please consult their website. The Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF) also offers protection grants but exclusively in North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia). To apply for support from EMHRF, please review the eligibility criteria and submit an application here.
• Americas: Urgent Action Fund- Latin America and the Caribbean (UAF-LAC) provides protection grants to women human rights defenders and LGBTIQ+ rights defenders. Apply for a grant here after reviewing their criteria.
• Asia: Forum-Asia provides protection grants for human rights defenders in Asia. Reach out to hrd@forum-asia.org and/or protection@forum-asia.org if you are at risk. Urgent Action Fund Asia & Pacific also provides protection grants to women and LGBTIQ+ rights defenders at risk. Apply for a grant here after reviewing their criteria.
• Europe and Central Asia: People in Need provides protection grants for human rights defenders and organisations at risk in Eastern Europe (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine) and Central Asia. Review their website to see how to access support here. Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism also supports women human rights defenders and LGBTIQ+ rights defenders at risk in these regions. Apply for a grant here after reviewing their criteria.
• Middle East/Southwest Asia: EMHRF provides protection grants for human rights defenders and organisations at risk in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria.
